Not just a map. A movement for mobility on your terms.

At The Sustainable Stop, we believe in journeys that sustain bodies, brains, ecosystems, and each other.
But for all our talk of “getting out into nature,” a hard truth remains: far too many people still have to guess whether they’ll be welcome at the trailhead. Especially if you move through the world differently. Especially if you drive a campervan and use wheels.
Access Trails UK is our answer. A sister initiative tuned to grounded mobility, care-full information, and radical transparency about what it actually takes to get from car park to coastal path with your dignity, body, and bandwidth intact.
Because “accessible” isn’t one-size-fits-all.
You’ve seen the signs. The vague promise of “step-free” or “suitable for all” printed on a leaflet with no mention of gravel that eats wheels for breakfast.
Access Trails UK was born from frustration and a little hope.
- Frustration with routes that assume “wheelchair user” means “has a teammate to hoist them over a stile.”
- Hope that trail truth, shared kindly, could open more landscapes to more bodies.
This isn’t just a project. It’s practice.
Of mapping with care. Respecting people’s need to plan without disappointment. Of honouring the prep it takes to make a journey actually viable.
Who it’s for
You, if you’ve ever:
- Done hours of pre-trip Googling and still arrived somewhere that wasn’t as promised
- Called ahead and been told “it’s probably fine”
- Thought, “If I’d known this, I could have saved so much time / energy / emotion”
- Travel with access needs, chronic pain, mobility equipment, a care team, or neurodivergent sensory settings
- Travel in a van, and need to know: Can I park, sleep, open my ramp, and get to the path without a public showdown?
This is for the planners. The cautious optimists. The ones who want nature and infrastructure, not one or the other.
We’re not anti-adventure.
We’re pro-preparedness.
Because readiness is freedom.
Want to travel with us?
We’re mapping slowly. Imperfectly. With grit and gratitude.
New entries are always welcome – from the trail-worn to the quietly observant.
Got tips about accessible campervan parking at a remote trailhead? We want those gold nuggets.
Know a path that should be welcoming but isn’t yet? Let’s flag it gently.
