Conflict Survival Guide – Post 3: The Passive-Aggressive Pan

For when cookware becomes a metaphor for unresolved tension

Every van has one.
The pan that burns everything.
The pan that no one wants to clean.
The pan that somehow ends up in every meal, despite mutual loathing.

It’s not just cookware, it’s a mood.
A symbol of simmering resentment and slightly scorched boundaries.

Here’s how to handle it:

  • Step 1: Name the Pan.
Give it a title. “The Pan of Doom.” “Sir Sizzles-a-Lot.”
Naming it makes it less threatening and more hilarious.
  • Step 2: Declare a Pan Amnesty.
Choose a day to clean it together.
Not as punishment, but as a relational reset.
Scrub the tension. Rinse the mood. Dry with dignity.
  • Step 3: Retire It (If Needed).
If the pan is truly cursed, let it go.
    Hold a ceremonial farewell.
    Thank it for its service.
Replace it with something that doesn’t hold grudges.

Helpful Tip:
Keep one “neutral pan” for peacekeeping meals.
No one argues over pancakes.
