The Van Will Pay for Itself (Eventually): 6. The Van as a Date Night Facilitator

Poetic fragments for romantic resourcefulness and low-budget intimacy

No babysitter. No booking.
Just us, a thermos, and a field.
Romance is cheaper when the stars are free
and the soundtrack is frogs.

The van becomes a love nest.
A place where candlelight is battery-powered,
and dinner is whatever didn’t fall out of the fridge
when we turned that last corner.

We’ll dress up slightly.
You are in your soft jumper.
Me in my “date night” socks.
The ones without holes.

We’ll toast with lukewarm wine.
We’ll dance in three square feet.
We’ll laugh at the absurdity
of calling this luxury
and mean it.

No reservations.
No overpriced menus.
Just the kind of intimacy
that comes from knowing
we chose this together.

And when someone asks,
“Don’t you miss fancy nights out?”
we’ll smile,
gesture to the fairy lights and compost bin,
and say,
“We upgraded to legacy.”
