The Van Will Pay for Itself (Eventually): 8. The Van as a Wardrobe Filter

Poetic fragments for minimalist fashion and emotional clarity

If it doesn’t fit in the van,
it doesn’t fit our life.
Suddenly, we’re fashion icons
with three jumpers and a legacy of comfort.

The wardrobe shrinks.
But the dignity expands.
No more “just in case” outfits
for events we never attend.

Clothes become companions.
A jumper for grief.
A scarf for celebration.
A pair of socks that survived three arguments
and one very muddy field.

We dress with intention.
Not for trends,
but for tenderness.
For the kind of healing
that begins with what touches our skin.

The van teaches us to choose.
To fold with care.
To say, “This stays,”
not because it’s stylish,
but because it knows our story.

And when someone asks,
“Don’t you miss having options?”
we’ll smile,
gesture to the single drawer,
and say,
“We have everything we need
and nothing that doesn’t love us back.”
