Conflict Survival Guide – Post 9: The Van-Based Laugh Reset

For when tension needs a giggle, not a grudge

In a van, laughter isn’t optional; it’s survival.
You’re living in a shoebox with plumbing.
Sometimes the only way to defuse a mood is to laugh at it.
Together. On purpose.

Here’s how to build a laugh reset ritual:

  • Step 1: Identify Your Shared Comedy Triggers.
    Is it a specific podcast?
    A ridiculous playlist?
That one video of a goat screaming like a human?
    Bookmark it. Use it wisely.
  • Step 2: Create a “Mood Meltdown” Playlist.
Include songs that are too absurd to stay mad through.
Think: disco remixes, sea shanties, or anything with kazoo solos.
  • Step 3: Keep a Van Joke Journal.
Write down the weirdest things you’ve said or done in moments of stress.
(“Remember when we argued about lentils for 45 minutes?”)
Revisit it when moods get mossy.
  • Step 4: Use Props.
A silly hat. A sock puppet. A spatula named Kevin.
When tension rises, bring out the prop.
It’s hard to stay mad when someone’s apologising through a googly-eyed spoon.

Helpful Tip:
Declare one drawer the “emergency humour zone.”
Fill it with snacks, stickers, and one item that makes you laugh no matter what.
